Project Planning and Implementation:
This can be broken down into three steps.
1.) Determine the Experimental Needs of Each Project. This includes, the type of genome editing reagents, route of administration, target tissues, number and age of pigs needed, and type and format of results to be returned to the investigators.
2.) Anticipate Regulatory Needs and Potential Hazards, this is discussing hazards to identify risks, and determining biosafety levels of vehicles, recombinant DNA, nanoparticles, etc.
3.) Determine Project- Specific Outcomes that Need to be Measured. We recommend asking yourself, are these quantifiable measures that are important for the project and are there phenotypic responses that need to be measured?
These steps will aid in the project planning process and help obtain approvals from the institutional biosafety committee and the IACUC and finalize research plans.
