Project Planning

Two committees govern NSTC actions regarding project prioritization and animal model production. These are the NSTC Steering Committee and the NSTC Evaluation Committee.

Investigators that want to perform testing of genome-editing reagents, or related experiments, in the pig are encouraged to contact the NSTC to discuss project details and logistics, under the Consultation tab. Investigators should have current or pending funding to support the research project.  When needed, the NSTC will work with the investigators on the development, production, maintenance, and characterization (e.g. phenotyping) of swine models of human disease. As part of this work, the NSTC advise on the development of transgenic construct design and genotyping.

  • All genome editing reagents and vectors (viral or nonviral) will need to be provided with sufficient quality and quantity to perform the designed experiments,  including preliminary pilot screens.
  • The materials will need to be sterile and of a pH and osmolarity that is appropriate for delivery to animals.
  • The investigators will need to work with the NSTC to obtain local approval of the IACUC and the IBC for the designed experiments.
Project Planning steps include:
finishing the application, discussing with the national swine testing center administration and then the steering and evaluation committee will review the project.
